History of MIT

The Montessori Institute of Tokyo is the first AMI-recognized training center in Japan for 3–6-year-old Montessori teachers, officially accredited by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), headquartered in the Netherlands.
Since its establishment on October 19, 1975, by Honorary Director Shizuko Matsumoto, the Institute has trained and graduated more than 2,200 internationally qualified Montessori teachers.
Today, Setsuko Miura, an AMI-certified 3–6 Teacher Trainer, leads the training of high-quality Montessori educators who are capable of supporting the holistic development of children, the future citizens of our world.
In addition to teacher training, the Montessori Institute of Tokyo is dedicated to the understanding, practice, and dissemination of authentic Montessori education in Japan and around the world.
