About the International Montessori Association (AMI)

International Montessori Society

AMI was founded in 1929 by Dr. Maria Montessori and her son Mario Montessori.

Currently, the organization is based in the Netherlands and is supported by renowned scholars, sponsors, and members who are enthusiastic about research from around the world.

AMI has many member teacher training institutes around the world and is the most authoritative organization internationally in the teaching of students and the dissemination of Montessori education. Throughout its long history, AMI has been developing in order to put into practice and disseminate Montessori education, making use of the energy gained through collaboration between teachers in the field and theorists.

AMI-sponsored conferences (held every two years) bring together representatives from many different countries to exchange cultures, present research, develop teaching materials, and update the Montessori system.

AMI has a membership system, and those who obtain an international diploma can choose between lifetime membership and annual membership.

Members will receive a booklet called "Communication" twice a year and a newsletter called e-Bulletin (delivered by email), allowing them to access a wide range of information.

Anyone can become an AMI member, regardless of training or teaching experience. To register, please contact AMI's official partner organization, AMI Friendship Association Nippon .
