About the International Montessori Association (AMI)

International Montessori Society

AMI was founded in 1929 by Dr. Maria Montessori and her son Mario Montessori.

Currently, it is supported by prominent scholars, sponsors, and enthusiastic members from all over the world, mainly from its headquarters in the Netherlands.

AMI is the most authoritative organization in the world for the guidance of students and the spread of Montessori education, with teacher training institutes with many members all over the world. During its long history, AMI has been developing for the practice and dissemination of Montessori education by making the best use of the vitality gained through collaboration between teachers and theorists in practice.

AMI's conferences (held biennially) bring together representatives from a wide variety of countries for cultural exchanges, research presentations, teaching aid development, and even the renewal of the Montessori system.

AMI has a membership system, and those who have obtained an international diploma can choose between life membership and annual membership.

Those who become members receive a booklet called "Communication" twice a year and a newsletter called e-Bulletin (delivered by e-mail), allowing them to obtain a wide range of information.

Anyone can become a member of AMI, regardless of training or educational experience. For registration, please contact AMI Tomonokai NIPPON , an AMI official cooperating organization.
